Public Policy Research

We coordinate research on various tobacco control policy issues in order to develop and deliver high-impact evidence-based tobacco control interventions. We coordinate both locally-based and regional research to inform our ongoing policy and social marketing efforts. We are actively involved in the generation of scientific evidence to support the development of strong tobacco control policies in Africa.
Our research activities focus on:

  • Applied and translational research that informs policy and practices
  • The epidemiology of smoking
  • Building effective research networks
  • The economics of tobacco control

People have died from tobacco-related diseases in Africa since the opening of the first FCTC working group on 28 October 1999.
